University of Oregon missing person case
Here is a news report. Here is the latest info I found. Daming Xu is a professor at the University of Oregon and has been missing for almost three weeks after a hike in the Oregon Wilderness of Central Oregon. He had no jacket or supplies so his survival at this point is very questionable. A week ago authorities scaled the search way back after some 5000 hours of search.
I’m not a local news guy but I’m floored by how little attention this case received compared to the Kim Family case almost exactly one year ago. I’m hearing about this thanks to blog comments at JoeDuck.com rather than news stories. Clearly a disappearing family has a lot more power as a story than a single person, but it’s also interesting how some stories capture the national interest and imagination where others do not.
